How to remove your ex from vacation photos

To remove your ex from vacation photos, upload them to Remove Your Ex and write a short description of who should go. You keep the view, the trip and yourself, and you can edit up to 10 photos in one batch. If your ex is small or off to one side, the free eraser on your phone may be enough.

Selfies at landmarks

The trip photos people miss most are often the close ones: a selfie in front of a famous view, with your ex right beside you. When they go, the background behind them has to be rebuilt, whether that’s a skyline, a beach or a sky full of northern lights.

A clear description of who goes helps. In a selfie of just the two of you, “the man” or “the woman” may be all it takes. If there are other people in the shot, describe your ex by position and clothing, for example “the man on the right in the knit hat”. If the first edit isn’t right, the second edit is free.

Edit the whole trip in batches

A trip rarely leaves just one photo. You can upload up to 10 photos in one batch and write one description for the batch. Each photo uses 1 credit, and that includes its free second edit. You can make up to 20 edits a day, so a long trip can be split over a couple of evenings.

If a photo can’t be edited, the credit comes back automatically. Your originals and edits are stored privately for 90 days, then deleted.

When your phone’s eraser is enough

Not every vacation photo needs Remove Your Ex. If your ex is a small figure at the edge of a wide shot, or walking away against a plain background, the free eraser on your phone can often handle it. iPhone Clean Up, Google Photos Magic Eraser and Samsung Object Eraser all let you tap, brush or circle a person, one photo at a time.

Trip photos you’ve already posted

Some of these photos may already be on your profile. You don’t have to decide about all of them today. You can archive a post so it’s off your profile without deleting it, hide your ex from memories on your phone, or edit them out and keep the moment. Here’s how to hide, delete or edit photos of your ex.

The trip was yours too. Start with the handful of photos you miss seeing, and take it from there.
